Luigi Acquisti (Forlì, 1745 - Bologna, 1823)
Tago, 1777
terracotta; inv S 103
provenance: Palazzo De’ Buoi, Bologna
The statue of the dog Tago was commissioned by his owner, the marquis
De’ Buoi, from the young sculptor Luigi Aquisti. The
Terracotta was intended to commemorate the animal’s loyalty.
Tago, overwhelmed with joy from his owner's return, jumped out of a
window and died.
This work originally stood on a windowsill, facing courtyard, of the
De’ Buoi Palace in Bologna (via Oberdan, 24).
After being restored by the City of Bologna, it was moved to the museum
in which it stands today and will be replaced by a copy.
